Will you be counted

Calling ALL anak bangsa Malaysia.... will we be identified as lost?! Will we stand up and reverse the effects of the past and take back the future of this country into our own hands... put your vote where your conscience is!

The truth is, we will continue in a slide until each of us make a decision to reverse the evil that is taking place.

God Bless Malaysia!

2 constitutions in Malaysia?

I remember reading in my history books about the freedom of religion being put in the Malayan Constituion, and that my freedom to choose any religion is a freedom and right protected by the constitution of this land.

Recent events have put a question in my mind. What is the question?

How come my muslim brothers and sisters cannot choose their religion? Why is it that when their forefathers made a decision to become a muslim, they cannot make a choice otherwise (according to the freedom guaranteed in OUR constitution?)

I have observed this freedom being extended to people in Turkey & Indonesia, so why not us? It is worrying to see how over-zealous the religious enforcement officers are carrying out punitive actions and having the government stand-by and watch like a eunuch. Powerless by their own past actions. I am supremely concerned that my fellow brothers and sister in Malaysia is losing a fundamental right and having the bullies descend upon them, their children, grandchildren and the generations beyond! Why the grave concern.... because, the way things are heading, we are going the way of some arabic nations where wife beating is legal.

And honor killing is acceptable!?!

Yes, I am concerned as a Malaysian.... as more than 65% of my fellow Malaysian brothers and sisters are impacted with this double constitution that has major implication as the road we travel seems to lead us to a place we cannot and must not go.

The responsibility is on the government, we are a civil nation with a national religion of Islam, but civil law is the common law of the land. Please defend the right of ALL Malaysians as guaranteed in our constitution!

Hidup Malaysia!
Merdeka!
Merdeka!
Merdeka!

No more ISA!

We marched today to tell the BN government what we want. The polls are coming in 2013, if the BN government still refuse to change its ways and remain relevant to the rakyat, then we will change the you!

Please listen to us. We have been trying to say this for a very long time..... we are shouting NOW! We no longer want the ISA.... we do not want this act to be reviewed, changed or anything like that, we want to remove this wicked law! This act that allows the BN government to terrorise Malaysia! We want it thrown OUT!

Nazri should think about what he has just said. It was arrogant and totally UMNO! Nazri's statement just showed how arrogant this government is!

Anak Bangsa Malaysia, RISE UP! register to vote! And when it is time to vote.... remember Perak, remember PKFZ, remember Kugan, remember Teoh Beng Hock & and rest of 1,805 who has died in custody since 2003. Remember them and VOTE your conscience!

A tragic Malaysian Death!

A death of a Malaysian in the hands of a Malaysian agency. A Malaysian agency who was suppose to uphold and safeguard the country's integrity has proven itself unworthy to carry out this duty (and I don't just mean the SPRM/MACC).

And whilst everyone is shouting for the Opposition not to policitise the matter, why is UMNO making it into a racial matter! The 30-yr-old father-to-be who died is a MALAYSIAN! Does it matter what ethnicity he is!??!

My humble opinion - it is a class matter. The ruling (elite) class against the mass (normal) class. Just because this anak bangsa Malaysia is not of prominent background, does not have any ties with the elite, his life is expendable!? To the point that the government & its enforcing agencies can go unscathed and not provide an answer to the rakyat?!?!

Answer me on Kugan's death, just because he has no buddies in high places and is not of high standing (profile) in the elite class, his death is left un-investigated and unanswered. No one is brought to justice or being held accountable & responsible for his death!? Answer the rakyat! And what about the thousands that have died in police custody? What about their deaths that is being hidden! I pray that all (each one) these deaths will be brought to light.

Whilst it shows that you still have human decency to communicate condolenscences, but you MUST bring the perpetrators to justice. The people wants and demands the truth & justice!

WHY?

Just attended the rally at Kelana Jaya Stadium. I must say that I am proud to be counted as an ordinary rakyat like those who came to the rally. Malaysians showed up in strength and we were comprised of all enthnicity and religious leanings.

We all came to tell MACC that we want the truth! And that the government of the day must allow a royal commission made up of ordinary rakyat to convince us that the entire proceeding is transparent! We will not take anything less! We want the truth and we want justice based on the truth!

No more lies! Especially from the BN government... if you don't buck up now and start doing the things that we have clearly communicated for you to do! I can assure YOU (BN Government) that you will not be voted back in power anymore! If anything, we will give you a small portion just to maintain a semblance of balance!

So heed this advice from the people you are suppose to serve! Set up the Royal Commission comprised of ordinary rakyat like myself! And be prepared to sack those found responsible! Do that! if you dare!

Let's challenge the "Flip Flop" policy

I have posted the below article as it is the closest reflection on what I feel about the latest "flip flop" by the government of the day. It is my rural brothers and sisters that I am concerned about (regardless of ethnicity).

Those of us who are able to afford and have access, will ensure that our children are educated and equipped accordingly. However, what about those of us who can barely make ends meet. Whilst we want to provide a way out for our children so that they can live better lives than us, our UMNO government is making it almost IMPOSSIBLE for us! WHY?!

Their motives are very obvious. They think they can remain in power by keeping the majority of us with little or no alternatives.

This is my call to all Anak Bangsa Malaysia - for those who are able, teach English (for free) to all who are not able to afford it. Start a movement in the kampung and the rural to teach our children the commercial language of English.

Let us stand up and do something that the government think is their exclusive domain. It is not! Let us start a movement to truly set Malaysia free!

Chaining the Children of the Poor
by M. Bakri Musa

The ancient Chinese bound the feet of their baby daughters so they would grow up with deformed tiny feet, thus limiting their mobility and participation in life outside the little world of their homes. These women would then be totally dependent on their men.

In rescinding the policy of teaching science and mathematics in English, the government is likewise binding the intellectual development of our children. They and future generations of Malaysians would grow up with warped intellect. They would then be totally dependent on the government, just as ancient Chinese women with tiny feet were on their men.

My friend and fellow commentator Azly Rahman has a more apt and colorful local metaphor; we are condemning future generations to the Pekan Rabu economy, capable only of selling pirated versions of Michael Jackson albums. That would be the extent of their entrepreneurial prowess and creative flair. They are only subsistence entrepreneurs and ‘copy cat’ creators.

Make no mistake about it. The government’s professed concerns for the poor and those from rural areas notwithstanding, reversing the current policy would adversely and disproportionately impact them. The rich and those in the cities have a ready escape; the rich through private English classes, urban children from the already high levels of English in their community.

The most disadvantaged will be the poor kampong kids. That means Malay children. Thus we have the supreme irony if not perversity of the champions of Ketuanan Melayu actively pursuing a policy that would ensure Malay children be perpetually trapped economically and intellectually. I thank Allah that I grew up at a time when the likes of Muhyiddin were not in charge of our education system. Otherwise I would have been trapped in my kampong.

The idiocy of the new move is best illustrated by this one startling example. In 2012 when the new plan will be implemented, students in Form IV will be taught science and mathematics in Malay, after learning the two subjects in English for the past nine years. Then two years later when they will be entering Sixth Form or the Matriculation stream, they will again have to revert to English.

Pupils in the vernacular schools would have it worse. They would learn the two subjects in their mother tongue during their primary school years, then switch to Malay for the next five while in secondary school, and then switch again, this time to English, in Sixth Form and university!

Had these policymakers done their homework and diligent downstream analysis, such idiocies would not crop up. Then again this is what we would expect from our civil servants. They have been brought up with their minds bound up; they cannot think. They have depended on others to do the thinking for them.

Najib Razak’s flip-flopping on this major national issue eerily reminds me of similar indecisiveness and lack of resolve of his immediate predecessor, Abdullah Badawi. No wonder he supports Najib in this policy shift. Najib should not take comfort in that, unless he expects a similar fate as Abdullah’s. Abdullah was kicked out by his party; with Najib, it would be the voters who would be kicking him out. Public sentiments are definitely against this policy switch.

Failure of Policy Versus Failure of Implementation
The cabinet reversed course because it deemed the policy did not produce the desired results. However, in arriving at this pivotal decision the cabinet failed to address the fundamental question on whether the original policy was flawed or its implementation ineffective.

It just assumed the policy to be flawed. Muhyiddin and his senior officers relied heavily on the 2005 UNESCO Report which suggests that “‘mother tongue first’ bilingual education” may (my emphasis) be the solution to the dilemma of members of minority linguistic groups in acquiring knowledge.

Muhyiddin and his advisers seriously misread the Report. It was concerned primarily with the dilemma at the societal level of members of a linguistic minority having to learn the language of the majority (“national language”) versus the need to maintain linguistic diversity generally and minority languages specifically. UNESCO was rightly concerned with the rapid disappearance of languages spoken by small minority groups. The report was not addressing specifically the learning of science and mathematics.

Malay language is not at risk of disappearing; it is the native tongue of literally hundreds of millions. To extrapolate the UNESCO recommendations for Malay language is a gross oversimplification and misreading of the report.

The UNESCO Report does not address the issue of when and how best to introduce children to bilingual education. Later studies that focused specifically on the pedagogical and psychological aspects instead of the sociological and political have shown that children are quite capable of learning multiple languages at the same time. Even more remarkable is that the earlier they are exposed to a second language the more facile they would be with that language. They would also learn that second language much faster; hence second language even at preschool.

The acquisition of bilingual ability at an early age confers other significant cognitive advantages. These have been documented by clinical studies with functional MRIs (imaging studies of the brain). Malaysia should learn from these more modern studies and the experiences of more advanced societies, not from the UNESCO studies of backward tribes of Asia.

The other basis for the cabinet’s decision was ‘research’ by local half-baked and politically-oriented pseudo academics. They should be embarrassed to append their names to such a sophomoric paper. The quality is such that it will never appear in reputable journals. As for the Ministry’s own internal ‘researchers,’ remember that they came out within months of the policy’s introduction in 2003 documenting the ‘impressive’ improvements in students’ achievements!

The one major entity that would be severely impacted by the cabinet’s decision is our universities. Yet our Vice-Chancellors have remained quiet and detached in this important national debate. They have not advised the cabinet nor lead the public discussions. Again that reflects the caliber of leadership of our major institutions.

Had the cabinet decided that the policy was essentially sound but that the flaws were with its implementations, then measures other than rescinding it would be the appropriate response. This would include recruiting and training more English-speaking teachers and devoting more hours to the subject.

What surprised me is that when Mahathir introduced the policy in 2003, he was supported by his cabinet that included Najib, Muhyiddin, Hishamuddin, and over a dozen of current ministers who now collectively voted to reverse the policy. Likewise, the policy was fully endorsed too by UMNO’s Supreme Council then. Like the cabinet, many of those earlier members are still in that body today. Yet today the Council also voted to disband the policy. Muhyiddin, Hishamuddin and the others have yet to share with us why they changed their minds. The conditions that prompted the introduction of the policy back then are still present today. This reversal will do not change that.

Najib, Muhyiddin and Hishamuddin are “lallang leaders,” they bend with the slightest wind change. Unlike Margaret Thatcher’s famed resolve of “This lady is not for turning,” with Najib, Muhyiddin, et al., all you have to do to make them undertake a U turn would be to blow slightly in their faces. Blow a bit harder and they would scoot off with their tails between their legs. These leaders will never lead us forward.

This reversal will not solve the widening achievement gap between urban and rural students. The cabinet has yet to put forth new ideas on ameliorating that problem. So, just as ancient Chinese women were physically handicapped because of their bound feet, rural or more specifically Malay children will continue to be intellectually handicapped by their warped and small minds, the consequence of this policy shift. Perhaps that is the real objective of this policy reversal, the shackling of the intellectual development of our young so they will forever be dependent on their ‘leaders.

New Cabinet ?? But same mindset!

The comments from Ong Tee Keat about the selection of cabinet ministers is telling of the mindset that is prevalent in MCA and potentially in all the BN component parties. This mindset is definitely evident in UMNO with the selection of Youth Minister under pressure of elder statesman (take a guess who?)

IT is obvious that the selection of ministers, senators and so on has got nothing to do with the interest of the rakyat at hear, more to further their respective individual agenda.

We MUST remember this and ensure that we voice our disdain at the next general election.

RAKYAT must act now! What must we do!?!?

ALL of us (who are eligible) must register ourselves as VOTERS now! Do not forsake your civil duties.... your one vote makes a very big difference.

Democracy or something else? Choose

Are we in danger of losing our democracy? Has the people's wishes never counted for anything, that a monarch will yield whatever power that is given him to better himself and his family (in the most corruptible manner) at the expense of the people's welfare!

Interesting to note that this is not the 1st transgression against the rakyat. There has been too many of such transgression, but I will attempt to note a few latest ones
  1. Rakyat of Perak robbed of the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to choose their leader.
  2. Death's of police detainees whilst in police custody
  3. The Rakyat living under the constant threat of ISA if we speak against certain parties, individuals. ISA will not apply should you be affiliated to the correct political party.
  4. The fact that the Rakyat cannot gather peacefully to make a statement of protest against a draconian law.

And the above are just incidences that can be recorded in the last 1 month. Should I decide to have a comprehensive list, I think I will be completely disgusted! And the final analysis - we, the Rakyat is the reason these transgressions have been going on for so long and getting worse! Every election, we vote the same transgressors into power, sending the message that we welcome their transgressions!

When we finally woke up on March 8,things turned and now with some scare tactic we lack the conviction to see through the changes except for a few!

Effectively, we have forsaken our right to chose the leader we want, and allowed ourselves to be governed by fascism! Why do I say that? Please read on

Definition for Fascism (Wiktionary) -
fascism (plural fascisms)
An extreme-right totalitarian political regime ideologically based on centralized government, violently repressing any criticism or opposition of the regime, leader cult and exalting nation-state and/or religion above individual rights. Originally only applied (usually capitalized) to Benito Mussolini's Italy.
By vague analogy, any system of strong autocracy or oligarchy usually to the extent of bending and breaking the law, race-baiting and violence against largely unarmed populations.

Malaysia's creeping fascism
Azril Mohd Amin Feb 2, 09 4:21pm

A Kugan is not the point. His race is not the point. His criminality is not the point. The point is the fundamental function of the democratic process - the total and inviolable separation of enforcement, judgment, and punishment - has been violated.
MCPX

When police become judges and executioners, you have de facto fascism. It does not matter whom you elect into leadership. If that leadership cannot absolutely guarantee that those whom you turn to for protection will not attack and harm or kill you instead, the said leadership must either resign or be voted out of office. No other issues even matter, if alleged criminals start dying in prison.

The ‘fascism’ crept further in when a former Malaysian police official beat someone up (it doesn’t matter who), until that person had to go all the way to Germany to obtain surgical relief from his severe back pains.

This ‘creeping fascism’ was further welcomed into Malaysian life when the aforementioned police official was given a three-month ‘suspended sentence’, i.e., he did not even go to jail!

This is why no enforcement authority can ever be trusted to ‘self-regulate’. Someone must always monitor enforcement actions from outside. Always. What is Putrajaya's hesitation to form a truly independent police commission?

The incidences that have befallen the rakyat is the reason I say we may lose our democracy should we leave this right un-exercised! I pray that we will be allowed another opportunity come 2012 to exercise our democratic right to choose. God willing, if we are?! I pray that every anak Bangsa Malaysia will come out to vote for righteousness, justice and good governance.

We have been FAILED!

When we expect to be protected by those who were born into positions of responsibility to the rakyat, we are to be dissappointed Yet again!! why? What has made you think that you are above all that is happening in the country?! In one day, my opinion of those who WAS the most highly regarded royal family off all the states.

And to take sides in such a blatant manner! I have to conclude that the family is under the thumb of UMNO!

I firmly believe that we, the rakyat, have to stand for ourselves now! Not an opposition party that has too many skeletons, not a fearful, cowardly royalty & definitely those who ate robbing us blind thru the bureucracy of this country. Anak Bangsa Malaysia, yes all of us, we need to form (1) ONE multiracial party that represents the agenda of Malaysians, not a group of party formed via a coalition

Wat we have now is not representative of where we truly want to progress to as a nation, not the current spilt state we are in now!

At the end of the day, we have to stop relying on anyone else and do wat we need to do by ourselves. So, come on! Our reliance has to stop at one point!

First, let's petition for another election for Perak, can someone tell me how we can do that?!
